Interswitch Team Pays Courtesy Visit to Strengthen Collaboration with Covenant University

A delegation from Interswitch Limited, led by Mr. Abiodun Lawal, Head of Innovation Management, alongside Ms. Mosunmola Mare, Programme Manager, and Mr. Daniel Dada, Sales Manager, paid a courtesy visit to the Management of Covenant University on Friday, November 7, 2025.

Welcoming the guests, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Igban, highlighted the steady growth and global recognition of Covenant University. He noted that the University continues to rank as the number one institution in Nigeria and West Africa, and among the top 3–5 universities in Africa, with a vision to be named among the top ten universities in the world in the near future.

Mr. Igban also commended the University’s alumni, known as Covenant Eagles, for consistently distinguishing themselves and bringing pride to the institution across the globe.

In his remarks, Mr. Abiodun Lawal recounted the origin of Interswitch, explaining that the company was established to address the inefficiencies in Nigeria’s financial system, particularly the long queues and limited interconnectivity among banks. He stated that Interswitch pioneered a platform that enabled seamless transactions between banks—transforming Nigeria’s banking landscape.

He emphasized that, just like Covenant University, Interswitch shares a commitment to building a better Nigeria. As the company celebrates 23 years of operations, the visit, he said, was aimed at deepening collaboration and strengthening partnerships with the University.

According to him, Interswitch is actively seeking innovative ideas that can drive both the company and the nation forward. The company, he added, is also looking to support Covenant University students through mentorship, exposure, and technical assistance for their startups, helping them connect with the wider business ecosystem.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Anake, expressed delight at the visit, describing Interswitch as one of Nigeria’s most innovative companies. He reiterated Covenant University’s openness to partnerships that align with its mission of raising new-generation leaders and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Professor Anake commended Interswitch’s plan to support student-led innovations and startups, noting that such initiatives would help nurture globally relevant technocrats. He congratulated the company on its 23 years of impactful operations and expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would yield even greater results.

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lanre Amodu; the Director of Financial Services, Pastor Samuel Joel Audu; and the Principal Assistant Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David.
